Week 4 - Photo Interpretation and Remote Sensors Lab - Lab 4

In this week's GIS Lab adventure I learned about combining different band combinations in order to showcase specific features in an image. Another thing I learned this week is how to use the histogram tool in order to see where the majority of pixel values fall in an image. We were assigned, once we got a handle and understanding of the material, to make three maps identifying certain features. We did this by switching up the layers to make the features more prominent according to the number of pixels in the switched layers.

In this feature, we were given the following question prompt: "In Layer_4 there is a spike between pixel values of 12 and 18. Name the type of feature responsible for this and locate an example of it on the map."  The feature I identified was the bodies of water, the pixel values in the water always came out to be between 12 and 18.

For this feature, we followed the following prompt: "Identify the feature that represents both A) a small spike in layers 1-4 around pixel value 200, and B) a large spike between pixel values 9 and 11 in Layer_5 and Layer_6." The feature I identified turned out to be mountains with snow on top.
For the final feature, we followed this prompt: "In certain areas of water, layers 1-3 become much brighter than normal, layer 4 becomes somewhat brighter, and layers 5-6 remain unchanged. Locate an example area that clearly shows these variations in water, using a band combination that makes them stand out." I managed to identify a water reservoir that showed variations in water that were brighter than normal for layers 1-3 and also remain unchanged for layers 5-6.

Week 3 - Photo Interpretation and Remote Sensors Lab - Lab 3

In this week's lab, we utilized the ERIDAS image 32-bit tool to analyze data. Once we completed the analysis of data we transferred the file over to ArcGIS to make this map!

Final Project and other maps created

After eight weeks this class has come to its conclusion. Our last task was to come up with a project idea that is geographic and meaningful...
