The adventure continues in this week's GIS lab! For this assignment, we were analyzing aerial imagery of Pascagoula, Mississippi. The goal of this lab was to create a Land use/Land Cover map by looking at features on the grounding by using a natural color aerial image. Overall it was a very long and tedious lab, the material overall was easy to do but creating polygons for wetlands and rivers made it even longer to complete. I looked for areas that are Residential, which was very easy to look at and find. I also looked for Commercial, Industrial, Deciduous Forest Land, Streams, Lakes, Bays, Forested wetland, non-forested wetland, Mixed barren land, and cropland. I also tested my features by placing random points on the map and checking those points on google street view. Out of the 30 points I placed, 22 of those were correct resulting in a 73% accuracy. But in the end the map I made turned out really good and the data being shown is clear and precise which you see below:
