In this installment of the GIS internship series, I am going to go over a plan for a GIS day event. The assignment for class this week was to create a plan for a GIS event on GIS day. So I decided to have an event that would be hosted in downtown or a park that is in a public setting, and the target audience is going to be family, friends, co-workers, GIS professionals, etc. The format for this event will be an informal discussion and open house so that people that are interested can learn more about it and people who aren't as interested can still have fun with the event. Here are the events that I decided to have for the benefit and enjoyment of everyone who attends:
- Have a build your own map workshop
- Provide maps for a fun treasure map kids could do
- Have map-based trivia questions for naming countries/locations around the world
- Give out candy from around the world and have people try to guess where on the map it's from
- Have local GIS employers come to showcase their business and allow people to apply for jobs
